He hasn’t told anybody, as far as you can tell.  It’s strange; Jones doesn’t gossip, you know that, but all the same you’d more than half-expected a serious talk from Samson the next morning, and the fact that it’s been almost a month and you’ve heard nothing from anyone is surprising.

 

He hasn’t been avoiding you, either, and if you ignore the furtive appraisals he seems to think you don’t notice, nothing has changed.  Maybe the contempt in his voice is more pronounced when he’s shouting out orders, farm boy, but you can deal with that.  You tell yourself you don’t need his respect, anyway.
